New Continuous Daily Quota 02/03/10 4:06:06 PM
New Continuous Daily Quota
In September Amanda attended the information seminar held by the Saskatchewan Milk Control Board to educate industry members on the new quota system. The system now involves converting the old quota into daily allotments measured in kilograms of butterfat/day. There is a range of monthly production which producers must meet defined by a positive and negative credit limit. Anything outside of this will result in penalties. This means that dairy producers will have to manage their production very closely on a monthly basis. Managing the number of heifers coming in, getting cows bred and ensuring proper feed usage and milk production will be important areas to ensure a producer can meet his allotted quota. Means by which a producer can change his quota are either temporarily by ‘transfer credits’ or by “direct transfer” which must be approved of by the board. If you would like to know more detailed information about the new quota system, see the Sask. Milk Control Board’s website www.saskmilkcontrolboard.ca .
